PURPOSE: To improve the durability when an optical recording medium is preserved at and under a high temp. and high humidity by having a plastic deformation layer between a substrate and a recording thin film and forming this plastic deformation layer of a coating film contg. the hydrolyzate of org. titanate.
CONSTITUTION: The plastic deformation layer 7 of an optical recording disk sample No.1 is formed of the coating film of a soln. prepd. by dissolving 2wt.% tetra(n-butyl)titanate into ethyl cellulose by spin coating. The layer is formed by drying the coating for three hours at 60°C in an oven, then allowing the coating to cool for 30 minutes. The recording and reproducing of EFM signals are executed with the respective samples exclusive thereof. In such a case, the recording medium is irradiated with a laser beam of 8mW at the time of recording and is irradiated with a laser beam of 1.0mW at the time of reproducing. The results reveal that the durability is greatly improved and the initial characteristics are improved as well by the formation of the plastic deformation layer.
