Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To contrive to improve an amplifier host action by composing a long and narrow central member having a first and a second edge parts, of a specific oxide component containing PrF+3 but not containing ZnO and ZnF3 and composing a surface coating material of the central member having the exposed edge parts of a prescribed oxide component.
SOLUTION: This transparent glass material is obtained by blending 20-35mol% of SiO2 containing about 50-650ppm concentration of PrF+3 but substantially not containing ZnO an ZnF3, 10-20mol% of AlO1.5, 19-34mol% of CdF2, 19-23mol% of PbF2 and 3-7mol% of YF3 as a long and narrow central member having a first and a second edge parts with 23-30wt.% of SiO2, 49-60wt.% of PbO, 5-11wt.% of K2O, 1-10wt.% of B2O3, 0-1wt.% of LiO2, 0-8wt.% of BaO, 0-3wt.% of Al2O3 and 0-2wt.% of Na2O, melting and cooling by a double crucible method in a nitrogen gas atmosphere. The transparent glass material exhibits an excellent action as a host for 1.3μm amplifier by doping the glass material with Pr.
