PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition useful as a free-radical initiator, etc., for polymerizing reaction of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer by including a specific organic peroxide component and a specified stabilizer capable of retarding the rate of decomposition of the peroxide therein.
SOLUTION: This composition is obtained by including (A) an organic peroxide component selected from the group consisting of peroxydicarbonate compounds and (B) a stabilizer component selected from the group consisting of α-hydroxyalkyl peroxide of formulas I and II [R1 is H, OH, a 1-22C alkyl, phenyl, etc.; R2 and R3 are each H, a 1-22C alkyl, phenyl, etc.; R4 and R5 are each H, a 1-22C alkyl, phenyl, etc.; (n) is 1-10; R6 is H, a 1-22C alkyl, phenyl, etc.; R7 and R8 are each H, a 1-22C alkyl, phenyl, etc.; R9 and R10 are each H, a 1-22C alkyl, phenyl, etc.] and a mixture thereof in an amount sufficient to retard the rate of decomposition of the organic peroxide component.
