Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper discharge device capable of appropriately detecting a correct situation of a top surface position of stacked paper sheets on a paper receiving tray by simple control with use of few sensors.SOLUTION: The paper discharge device emits an ultrasonic wave U toward the paper receiving tray 101 from the front side of the paper receiving tray 101 in a discharge direction X of paper sheets S in a predetermined height range including a reference position Href, relative to the top surface position H1 of stacked paper sheets S on the paper receiving tray 101, and areas above and below the reference position. Moreover, the device detects the height position of a boundary between the trailing end Sr of the stacked paper sheets S and an end fence 103 as the top surface position H1 of the stacked paper sheets S, based on changes in a reception level of the reflected wave R including reflected wave components Rsr and R103 from the trailing end Sr of the stacked paper sheets S and the end fence 103, respectively, over an elapsed time from the emission time of the ultrasonic wave U.
