To improve the service life of a rail used for a heavy-load railroad by compositely adding Co and Ni as the components of a rail steel, and controlling an Ni/Co ratio to a fixed range, so as to improve the wear resistance and ductility of a pearlite texture, and controlling the texture and hardness, so as to improve the wear resistance and ductility of a pearlite texture.
The pearlite-based rail having excellent wear resistance and ductility is characterized in that, in a steel rail comprising, by mass, 0.65 to 1.20% C, 0.05 to 2.00% Si, 0.05 to 2.00% Mn, 0.05 to 0.50% Co, 0.10 to 2.25% Ni and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, the ratio of the Co content to the Ni content (Ni/Co) lies in the range of 2.0 to 4.5, and at least a part of the head surface part of the steel rail has a pearlite texture.
