PURPOSE: To prepare a perimidine color improved in spectral absorption characteristics, heat resistance, and moisture resistance and useful for thermal transfer recording by incorporating a specific chemical structure into the color.
CONSTITUTION: A coupler of formula I (wherein R7 is H or a substituent; R8 is a substituent; m is 0-5; and Y is H or a substituent to be eliminate by the reaction of a developing agent with an oxidant) is oxidatively coupled with a p-phenylenediamine developing agent of formula II [wherein R1 and R2 are each H or (substd.) alkyl, or they may combine with each other to form a 5- or 6-membered ring; and R3 to R6 are each H, halogen, (substd.) alkyl, or (substd.) alkoxy, or R1 may combine with R4 and R2 may combine with R6 each to form a 5- or 6-membered ring] in a medium under a basic condition in the presence of an oxidizing agent having an electric potential enough to oxidize p-phenylenediamine, thus giving the title color of formula III.
