PURPOSE: To obtain a preparation containing a specific furanone derivative as an active ingredient and being useful as a prophylactic and therapeutic agent for digestive ulcers and gastritis because it has excellent action to inhibit ulcer formation and gastric acid secretion with low toxicity and reduced side effects.
CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical preparation contains a furanone derivative of the formula (R is an alkyl), for example, 4-methyl-2(5H)-furanone, as an active ingredient. The dose of the preparation is preferably 0.1 to 5,000mg/day/ adult, o.p.
