PURPOSE: To read picture information of each original by setting it once even in case of plural sheets of sheet-like originals, by incorporating in one body an original static type picture information reader and an original moving type picture information reader of an optical read unit moving system in using in common an optical read unit.

CONSTITUTION: An original holding cover 3 of a picture information reader 1 is provided with an original platen 20, original separating type automatic feed paper mechanism 30 original carrying mechanism 60, etc. As for originals placed on the original platen 20, one sheet of them is separated from other originals by the original separating type automatic feed paper mechanism 30, and fed to the original carrying mechanism 60. Moreover, its original is carried to a discharge paper tray 5 by the original carrying mechanism 60, and in that case, picture information of the original is read by an optical read unit 12 at a position P2. Accordingly, this picture information reader 1 is constituted to move the optical read unit 12 extending over a range from a position P1 to position P2.
