Abstract:
PURPOSE: To attain binarizing of a picture signal having an overlap in a density versus frequency of occurrence graph by obtaining a parameter for a lightness signal and a hue signal from the picture signal, comparing the parameter with a comparison reference signal so as to implement binarization.
CONSTITUTION: A picture input section 2 picks up an object 1 and outputs an R signal 11, a G signal 12, a B signal 13 of color digital picture signals, and a lightness-hue signal generating circuit 3 converts the signals 11, 12, 13 into a lightness signal 14 and a hue signal 15. The signals 14, 15 are sent to a binarization discrimination circuit 5. On the other hand, a comparison reference generator 4 sends a lightness comparison reference signal 16 and a hue comparison reference signal 17 to the circuit 5. The circuit 5 discriminates whether the signal 14 is larger than the signal 16, whether the signal 16 is larger than the signal 17, and when they are satisfied at the same time, the circuit 5 outputs a high level and in the other cases, the circuit 5 outputs a low level.
