PURPOSE: To obtain a pile mat having water-absorbing property and fire resistance without generating fallen yarn and having excellent wiping-off effect by constructing with a pile yarn comprising mixed spun filament of PVA and PVC and/or a pile yarn composed of PVA filament and PVC filament as principal components.

CONSTITUTION: A pile yarn composed of a mixed spun filament of polyvinyl alcohol-based component and polyvinyl chloride-based component and/or a pile yarn composed of polyvinyl alcohol-based filament and polyvinyl chloride- based filament as principal components are used to form pile mat. By said method, the aimed pile mat keeping water-absorbing property, moisture- absorbing property and fire resistance having bulky and elastic feeling without generating fly yarn nor fallen yarn and therefore excellent wiping-off effect without secondary pollution by fallen fiber, is obtained.
