Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously measure the pitch of a stranded wire under an inline travel without stopping a production line.
SOLUTION: Output pulses proportional to the travel of a stranded wire 1 under an inline travel are sent out from a rotary encoder 2, and the number of the output pulses is measured with a measurement pulse counter 3. Also, the outermost layer surface of the traveling stranded wire 1 is scanned with a laser displacement gauge 9, thereby causing a signal waveform corresponding to laser reflected light to be outputted from the laser displacement gauge 9. Then, the signal waveform is shaped in a waveform shaper 10 and a comparator 11 for conversion into a signal waveform formed out of the crest or trough of the outermost layer surface of the traveling stranded wire 1. Furthermore, each pitch number of the crest or the trough is measured with the counter 13 and when the measured pitch number becomes equal to the preset pitch value, a sampling instruction signal is outputted to a computing element 4. As a result, the computing element 4 causes a pitch indicator 5 to continuously display the travel distance of the traveling stranded wire 1 corresponding to the prescribed pitch number regarding the crest or the trough, whenever the sampling instruction signal is inputted.
