Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain such a polyethylene-protein conjugate for treatment and prevention of immunomodulatory disorders and infectious diseases that has a part of the biological activities of the protein which forms the conjugate, that does not have the same property to give immunogenic response of the protein, and that is physiologically active without having immunogenic property.
CONSTITUTION: A compd. expressed by formula I (R1 is a lower alkyl; R4 is a lower alkyl, a cycloalkyl; (n) is an integer of 1 to 1000) is allowed to react with isolated amino groups of a protein such as interferon-α, interleukin-1 or its salt. Then the reaction product is isolated from the reaction mixture to obtain the objective physiologically active polyethylene-protein conjugate of the protein expressed by formula II. In formula II, R2 is O, NH; R3 is =N-R4, =S, =O; (m) is a number selected from integers ≥1 in such a manner that the conjugate has at least a part of the biological activities of the nonconjugate protein; protein is interferon-α, interleukin-1, interleukin-1ra, etc.
