Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a viscosity index improvement additive which improves the viscosity index of lubricating oil and also fulfills functions as a dispersant and an antioxidant by copolymerizing specified three (meth)acrylate monomers.
CONSTITUTION: Unsatd. esters are copolymerized to obtain the objective viscosity index improvement additive of the formula, wherein R' is H or alkyl; Ra is 6-25C alkyl or a mixture of linear or branched alkyls; Rb is 1-4C alkyl or Ra; Rc is 4-20C linear, branched or cyclic alkyl having 1-2 N atoms; each of (x), (y) and (Z) is the wt.% of monomeric units, (x) is 80-95%; (y) is 0-12%; and (z) is 2-8%. The formula shows the kinds and amts. of reactive monomers but does not show the configuration of the monomers. A mixture of 50-85 wt.% 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidin-4-ol methacrylate and 15-50 wt.% N,N- dimethylaminoethanol is preferably used as a reactive monomer giving Rc.
