Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for multistage production of polyolefin foam particles which can dispense with the operation in an aq. suspension.
SOLUTION: Polyolefin foam particles having a bulk density of 1.20-100g/L are produced by a process comprising stage A wherein a polyolefin contg. a foaming agent is extruded and granulated to give partially foamed particles having a bulk density of 120-400g/L and stage B wherein the partially foamed particles are further foamed through at least one foaming step under the condition that the partially foamed particles contg. no foaming agent are treated with steam at 110-170°C and 1.5-8.0bar for 5-120sec and then depressurized.
