This compound is represented by formula I {Ac is acetyl; W is a group of formula II [R is 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyl] or the like} such as 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyl 5-acetamido-9-O-[5-acetamido-8-O-(5-acetamido-3,5-dideoxy- D-glycero-α-D-galacto-2-nonulopyranosylonic acid)-3,5-dideoxy-D-glycero-α-D- galacto-2-nonulopyranosylonic acid]-3,5-dideoxy-D-glycero-α-D-galacto-2- nonulopyranosylonic acid. The compound of formula II is obtained, for example, by reacting a compound of formula III ((n) is 0 or 1) with a compound of formula IV [SE is 2-(trimethylsily)ethyl] to obtain a compound of formula V and hydrolyzing the obtained compound.
