To provide a power conversion device consisting of multiple inverters without power regeneration capability which can generate a prescribed braking torque for decelerating an AC motor in both cases where the AC motor rotates at a high speed and at a low speed, while reducing energy and a cost.
This invention relates to a power conversion device comprising a multiwinding transformer 4 and multiple inverters 1 to 3 without power regeneration capability which are constituted by connecting a plurality of single-phase inverter units in series. An AC motor 5 is driven by these multiple inverters 1 to 3. A power consumption circuit 6 consisting of a switch 61 and a resistor 62 for consuming power generated by the AC motor 5 is connected through a step-down transformer 7 to the input side of the AC motor 5.
