To provide a power generation system that continues to supply power to a commercial-power-supply system busbar without stopping operation of an inverter in order to protect a power system even when a drop in output voltage of a permanent-magnet synchronous generator progresses, and its operation method.
The power generation system is configured such that power outputted by a permanent-magnet synchronous generator 1 driven by a motor 2 is converted into commercial power by an inverter 3 on the basis of a power command value so as to supply the power to a commercial-power-supply system busbar 6. The power generation system is provided with a first function generator 21, which outputs an upper-limit value signal of the power command value corresponding to a rotational-frequency signal N by previously setting a correspondence relationship between a rotational frequency N of the permanent-magnet synchronous generator 1 and an upper-limit value Amax of the power command value, and a limiter 22 that sets an upper-limit value of the power command value on the basis of the upper-limit value signal of the power command value inputted from the first function generator 21 so as to output the power command value, given from the outside, to the inverter 3 by limiting it to the upper-limit value when the magnitude of the power command value given from the outside exceeds the upper-limit value.
