To provide a power tool of variable speed type with the operating speed adjustable in the regulation position of a speed regulating member or a maximum speed regulating member, whereby the operation to make changeover to other speed temporarily can be conducted easily.

The power tool of variable speed type equipped with a speed regulating member having a position hold mechanism to be manipulated when the operator makes adjustment of the operating speed, is further equipped with a preset speed generating switch to adjust the operating speed to the preset speed in priority to the regulation position of the speed regulating member when the operator makes manipulation. Otherwise, the power tool is furnished with a built-in integrated circuit to make feedback control of the operating speed into the target value by feeding the voltage corresponding to the target speed to one input terminal, feeding the voltage corresponding to the operating speed to another input terminal, and emitting a gate-on signal from the output terminal, whereto further a changeover means is added which makes changing- over of the voltage corresponding to the target speed fed to the first named input terminal into either of the voltage in linkage with the regulation position of the speed regulating member and the preset voltage.
