PURPOSE: To obtain the titled catalytic component capable of acting at a high activity and giving a stereoregular polymer in high yield, by adding an electron donative substance to a specific composition of magnesium and aluminum, pulverizing the resultant mixture simultaneously, and bringing the pulverized mixture into contact with a titanium halide.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A magnesium halide, optimally MgCl2, expressed by the formula MgX2 (X is halogen) is pulverized with (B) aluminum isopropoxide to give a composition, which is further mixed with (C) an electron donative substance, optimally an aromatic carboxylic ester such as ethyl benzoate, and pulverized simultaneously. The resultant solid composition is then brought into contact with (D) a titanium halide, optimally TiCl4, expressed by the formula TiX4 (X is halogen) in the liquid phase or vapor phase, and then washed with an inert organic solvent, e.g. hexane, to afford the aimed component. Preferably, 0.005W0.5mol, based on one mol component (A), component (B) and 0.05W1mol, based on one mol component (A), component (C) are used.
