PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain the subject compds. useful for pest-controlling agents, etc., such as incecticides and miticides, after by treating the specified cyclopropanecarboxylic acid ester compds. with halogenating agents, treating with base agents in the presence of alcohol compds., etc.
CONSTITUTION: The compds. of formula I (R is a residue of cleavable esters or a residue of esters known in pyrethrinoid chemical fields), e.g. (1R,cis)2,2- dimethyl-3-(2-oxopropyl)cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid methyl ester, etc., are treated with halogenating agents such as bromine, in methylene chloride under an inert gas atmosphere at 10°C to convert into the halogenated compds. of formula II (Hal is a halogen). The obtained compds. are treated with base agents (e.g. sodium methylate, etc.), in the presence of the compds. of the formula; R'OH (R' is H, a 1-18C alkyl, 6-14C aryl, etc.), e.g. methanol, etc., to obtain the objective compds. represented by formula III in a state of a mixture of isomers or of each isomer in the level of cyclopropane ring.
