Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a novel preparation method for methylated tertiary amine wherein hexamethylenetetramine is allowed to react with various nitrogen- containing precursors in the presence of hydrogen and a hydrogenation catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: This reaction is extremely selective and methylation concerns only with nitrogen in amine or nitrile. Methylated amines which correspond to various initial derivatives such as aliphatic monoamines, aliphatic polyamines, aminoalcohols, ether amines, nitriles or aminonitriles are very easily obtained.
