PURPOSE: To obtain a uniform dyed material at a high color strength and excellent in color fastness to rubbing by dyeing a fiber material modified with a specific compound with an anionic dye in a state of a low alkaline agent and a low electrolyte or a completely absent state of the electrolyte when dyeing the fiber material therewith.
CONSTITUTION: A fiber material (cellulosic fibers) is modified with a compound represented by formula I or II {ER is an ester; A and N together with one or two 1-4C alkylene groups form a heterocyclic ring bivalent residue [with the proviso that A is a group represented by formula II, III or IV (R is H or an amino group or a 1-6C alkyl, or the like which may be substituted with amino, sulfo, hydroxy, sulfato, phosphato and carboxy; R1 is H, methyl, or the like; R2 is H, methyl, or the like; Z is an anion)]; B is amino, or the like, represented by H2N} and the ester group (sulfato group, phosphato group, or the like) and amino group, e.g. N-(β-sulfatoethyl)piperazine under alkaline conditions. The resultant modified celluosic fibers are level dyed at a high color strength by using, e.g. a reactive dye in the nearly absence of an alkaline agent and an electrolyte.
