To provide a printer that can start next printing without causing problems even when a dedicated paper receiving tray is misidentified as remaining paper.
The printer includes a paper feeding part 2, a printing part 6, a paper discharge part 10, a paper receiving part 3, a control part 14 and an operation panel 5, and the dedicated paper receiving tray 55 can be placed on the paper receiving part 3. The paper receiving part 3 includes: a paper receiving table 50; a stopper 51 regulating a tip position in the discharge direction of paper; a pair of side edge guides 52 regulating both side edge positions in the discharge width direction of discharged paper; and a paper presence/absence sensor 70 detecting presence/absence of paper on the paper receiving table 50. The control part 14 inhibits printing processing when detecting paper, and allows the printing processing when a dedicated paper receiving tray installation signal is input from the operation panel 5 or a dedicated paper receiving tray presence/absence sensor even if the paper presence/absence sensor 70 detects the dedicated paper receiving tray 55 placed on the paper receiving table 50.
