Abstract:

To provide a process for making a lubricant or lubricant component, wherein the process includes a step of forming an alkylated oligomeric product having low olefin content, a cloud point less than -50 °C, a viscosity index of at least 134, and a difference between the T90 and T10 boiling points of at least 225 °F by simulated distillation (SIMDIST).

The process includes: a step of oligomerizing a feed comprising one or more olefins in an ionic liquid oligomerization zone; and a step of alkylating the oligomer in the presence of an isoparaffin, in an ionic liquid alkylation zone.
