PURPOSE: To obtain an aromatic polyester having excellent electrical properties, mechanical properties, thermal properties, etc., and improved thermal stability, by the polycondensation of a specific compound with a bifunctional phenol using a specific compound as a chain end terminator.
CONSTITUTION: The objective aromatic polyester is produced by the polycondensation of (A) one or more acid halides of formula I (X is halogen; R1WR4 are H or 1W5C alkyl; m is 1 or 2) or their mixture with a bifunctional aromatic carboxylic acid halide (e.g. phthaloyl chloride) with (B) one or more bifunctional phenols (e.g. bisphenol A) using one or more compounds of formula IIWIV (R11WR15 are H, alkyl, alkoxy or phenyl; X is halogen) as chain end terminator in the presence of a polymerization catalyst such as a tertiary amine (e.g. triethylamine) e.g. by solution polymerization method.
