Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To industrially obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate of e.g. cycloalkanols, or as a peroxide, in high reaction rate and selectivity, by oxidizing a cycloalkane by molecular oxygen.
SOLUTION: This compound, a cycloalkyl hydroperoxide, is obtained by oxidizing a cycloalkane (e.g. cyclopentane) as feedstock by molecular oxygen using a transition metal catalyst soluble to the feedstock in the presence of a phosphoric ester of the formula (R is a 3-12C alkyl or 5-8C cycloalkyl; X is H, a 3-12C alkyl, etc.) at 80-120°C under a pressure of 0-25kg/cm2. The amount of the compound of the formula to be used is 10-300 (pref. 15-150) acid equivalent times per atom of the catalyst, while the amount of the catalyst such as a cobalt compound (e.g. cobalt naphthenate) to be used is 0.1-10 (esp. pref. 0.3-5) pts.wt. based on 1,000,000 pts.wt. of the feedstock in terms of the metal.
