PURPOSE: To improve productivity by inserting die cores of the diameter smaller than the inside diameter of cylinder liner stocks into the liner stocks providing a spacing from the inside surface thereof and pouring a molten metal into the die to cast a cylinder liner, then machining the inner peripheral surfaces of cylinder bores.
CONSTITUTION: The cylinder liner stocks are inserted toward the stationary die 1 and the linear stocks are positioned and fixed by fitting core print reference parts 15 to the reference curved parts for the core prints thereof. The die cores 26 of the diameter smaller than the diameter of the liner parts 2 are inserted into the respective liner parts 2 and thereafter, the movable die 23 is moved to complete the die. The molten metal is poured into a cavity 14 of the die. The molten metal is also poured through a runner 18 into the spacings between the linear parts 2 and the cores 16. The block stock embedding the liner stock by casting is cast in this way. This stock is subjected to finish machining such as cutting and grinding, by which the cylinder block is completed. The need for boring of the liner stocks prior to the casting is, therefore, eliminated and the productivity is improved.
