PURPOSE: To produce a corresponding glycidyl ether by condensing 8-24C alcohol with epichlorohydrin in high yield and to improve a purifying process thereof.
CONSTITUTION: 45-65% aqueous solution of alkali metal hydroxide is mixed with an alcohol such as 2-ethylhexanol and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide at 60°C while stirring, then epichlorohydrin is gradually added and the solution is aged. After the reaction is over, water is added, formed Nacl is made into an aqueous solution, the solution is separated into two layers, the oil layer is washed with water and distilled under reduced pressure. Polymerization of epichlorohydrin and formation of glycerol dialkyl ether as a by-product are suppressed to give a glycidyl ether having a low chlorine content in high yield.
