To directly produce-a hetero element-containing oxide compound such as a hetero element-containing epoxide compound, an N-oxide compound, etc., from a corresponding hetero element-containing compound such as a hetero element-containing compound, a nitrogen-containing compound, etc., more inexpensively than a conventional method using hydrogen peroxide or a hydroperoxide as an oxidizing agent.
A hetero element-containing compound is partially oxidized by using a catalyst comprising gold, titanium oxide, a carrier having ≥50 m2/g specific surface area, optionally an alkali metal and/or an alkaline earth metal in the presence of hydrogen and oxygen, for example, in a vapor phase. Preferably the carrier contains silicon oxide and/or aluminum oxide. The content of gold in the catalyst is preferably ≥0.01 wt.%.
