Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a polymer by which an amount of a carboxyl group in the polymer can be adjusted.SOLUTION: The production method of a polymer includes: a step in which a norbornene type monomer and maleic acid anhydride are co-polymerized to obtain a copolymer that has a repeating unit derived from the norbornene type monomer, and a repeating unit of a cyclic structure derived from the maleic acid anhydride; and a step in which the cyclic structure of a part of the repeating unit out of the repeating unit derived from the maleic acid anhydride of the copolymer is not ring-opened, the other part of the repeating unit of the cyclic structure is ring-opened, thereby the repeating unit having a carboxyl group is formed. In the step in which the repeating unit having the carboxyl group is formed, under the presence of a base, 50% or more of the repeating unit out of the repeating unit derived from the maleic acid anhydride of the copolymer is not ring-opened, and the cyclic structure of the other part repeating unit is ring-opened, and then acid treatment is performed.
