PURPOSE: To readily and efficiently obtain the subject pulp, having high opacity and useful as a raw material for papermaking etc., in high yield by holding a water-insoluble solid inorganic substance in intracellular cavities of an unpulped lignocellulosic material.
CONSTITUTION: The objective pulp obtained by depositing and holding (B) at least one substantially water-insoluble solid inorganic substance in (A) intracellular cavities of an unpulped lignocellulosic material and then subjecting the lignocellulosic material containing the composition (B) to pulping operation. Furthermore, in depositing and holding the component (B), an aqueous solution of at least one water-soluble substance or gaseous substance is preferably impregnated and held in the intracellular cavities of the component (A) and the aforementioned substance is then preferably converted into the component (B) in the interior of the component (A).
