Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a 1, 2-alkylene diol derivative effectively, a structure of which is capable of introducing another functional group at the 1-oxy group with ease.

CONSTITUTION: A production method of an optically active 1-benzyloxy-2-alkanol which is characterized by treating a mixture of R- and S-1-benzyloxy-2- acetoxyalkane with a microorganism which belongs to Corynebacterium or Micrococcus, and having activity of selective hydrolysis of a R-1-benzyloxy-2- acetoxyalkane to yield the R-1-benzyloxy-2-alkanol, when it is subjected to the mixture of R- and S-1-benzyloxy-2-acetoxyalkane, e.g. a cultured medium, microbial cells or processed microbes of Corynebacterium glutamicum ATCC13059, to obtain the R-1-benzyloxy-2-alkanol produced.
