Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain various optically active compounds useful as raw materials for a functional molecule such as liquid crystal, etc., a physiologically active substance such as medicine, agrochemical, etc., by a simple reaction, by using a specific readily obtainable cinchoninium salt as an asymmetric phase transfer catalyst. SOLUTION: For example, (A) 1 mol of an α,β-unsaturated ketone (preferably 3-methyl chalcone) is asymmetrically epoxidized in the presence of (B) 0.01-0.25 mol of a cinchoninium salt of the formula [Ar is a (substituted) phenyl; X is a halogen] by using (C) 1.5-20 mols of hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizing agent in (D) a heterogeneous mixed solvent system of a water phase and an organic phase in 1:1 (volume) containing 1-10 mols of an alkali hydroxide metal salt at -20 to 50 deg.C for 0.5-120 hours to give the objective optically active α,β-ketone.
