Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce pyridine bases by reacting an aliphatic aldehyde and/or ketone with ammonia in a gaseous phase using a catalyst supporting a specific metal on a specific zeolite.

CONSTITUTION: The method for producing pyridine bases by subjecting an aliphatic aldehyde and/or ketone to condensation reaction with ammonia in the presence of a catalyst in a gaseous phase comprises using a catalyst in which a zeolite as a support is modified, mixed or ion-exchanged with one kind of metal compound or metal ion selected from a group consisting of indium, silver, germanium and gallium. It is preferable that the atomic ratio of Si/Al of zeolite as a raw material is at least 10 and that the control index is within a range of 1 to 12.
