Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the title fibers useful for FRP, FRM, FRC, etc., having high strength and excellent thermal conductivity, by heating a mixture of silica powder, etc., and ceramic fibers in a mixed gas flow of a hydrocarbon gas and an ammonia gas at high temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of silica powder or silicon source powder (e.g. fumed silica) consisting essentially of silica and ceramic fibers of silica and alumina or alumina ceramic fibers is heated in a mixed gas flow of a hydrocarbon gas and an ammonia gas at 1,200-1,700°C to give the objective fibers.
