PURPOSE: To obtain the subject cord excellent in shape accuracy and surface quality and useful as tires, etc., at a low cost by once intertwisting plural brassed steel filaments, etc., continuously untwisting the intertwisted filaments in a forming device and dividing the untwisted filaments into individual helical filaments.

CONSTITUTION: The objective steel cord obtained by pulling wires 1 which are composed of two or more steel filaments or strands having brass plating on the surface thereof for processing through a twisting port 2 of a wire twister into a roller (4a) of a forming device 4 in a rotating cradle 3, once intertwisting the filaments, subsequently pulling the intertwisted filaments into a roller (4b) and then into a capstan 5 on the outlet side of the forming device 4, untwisting the intertwisted filaments between the roller (4b) and the capstan 5 with rotation of the cradle 3 and then dividing the filaments into individual helical filaments or strands.
