PURPOSE: To obtain the elastomer capable of remarkably improving the flame retardancy while keeping the mechanical strength and rubber characteristics and providing a readily processable product excellent in cold resistance, etc., by blending a phenol novolak resin with an epoxy-modified resin having epoxy groups readily reactive with the phenol novolak resin.
CONSTITUTION: This elastomer is obtained by dynamically heat-treating (A) a composition comprising (i) an ethylene-α-olefin nonconjugated diene copolymer rubber, (ii) a polyolefin-based resin, (iii) an organic organosiloxane-based cross- linking agent having ≥2 SiH groups in the molecule and (iv) a hydrosilylating catalyst, then adding (B) a phenol novolak resin, (C) a resin such as an epoxy- modified polyolefin-based resin or an epoxy-modified hydrogenated block copolymer prepared by hydrogenating a block copolymer comprising a polymer block consisting essentially of a vinyl aromatic compound and a polymer block consisting essentially of a conjugated diene compound and (D) an inorganic addition type flame retardant to the resultant heat-treated composition (A) and melt kneading the resultant mixture.
