To provide a receiving apparatus and a receiving method which enable the optimization of a period for synchronizing satellites, improving the positioning degree, and reducing both TTFF and electric power consumption.
In a GPS-receiving apparatus 10, two elevation angle threshold values, the angle of elevation of a satellite to start synchronization acquisition as a high elevation angle threshold (an angle of elevation to start synchronization) and the angle of elevation of a satellite to halt synchronization tracking as a low elevation angle threshold (an angle of elevation to terminate synchronization), are set. When the angle of elevation of a satellite, on which neither synchronization acquisition nor synchronization tracking is performed, is calculated to equal to the high elevation angle threshold value or greater, synchronization acquisition is started. When the angle of elevation of a satellite on which synchronization tracking is performed is calculated to be less than the low elevation angle threshold value, synchronization tracking is halted.
