PURPOSE: To easily and quickly correct a recognized error, and a character to be corrected, by writing manuscriptally rewriting a recognized error character on a storage device.

CONSTITUTION: A document is set to an optical character recognizing device comprising a scanner 1, a pre-processing circuit 2, a character recognizing circuit 3, and an interface circuit 4, for the character recognition. The result of recognition is stored in a storage device 7 and displayed on a CRT9. The operator checks the recognizing error by observing the display screen of the CRT9 through a transparent panel 15. When the recognition error is found out, the op erator manually describes the correct character on the character in error on a panel 15 with a pressure pen. The manuscript and the described position are recognized at a position operator 11 and a character recognition circuit 13 of a character manuscript device and the character is written in a storage position corresponding to the character describing position in the device 7. The operator recognizes whether or not the character is correctly corrected with the display of the CRT9.
