Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce chromitite in high reduction rate, by forming a mixture of chromitite powder and powder of carbonaceous reducing material into massive state by the use of a binder material, by filling a vessel made of ceramic with the resulting green compacts, and by heating the above in a tunnel kiln at a specific temp.

CONSTITUTION: The chromitite powder of about 40W60% Cr2O3 content and the powder of carbonaceous reducing material such as coke, etc., are mixed in prescribed percentages, and then the binder material such as CMC, etc., is added to the above mixture to be formed into green compacts of about 10W200mm diameter. Then the vessel of ceramic, such as aluminous one, etc., is filled with the above green compacts, which is placed into the tunnel kiln with a length of about 30W100m and heated at 1,200W1,500°C for at least ≥about 30min to undergo reduction. In this way, the green compacts as a whole can be uniformly reduced in ≥about 90% reduction rate.
