Abstract:

To provide a resolution conversion device to perform high-quality resolution conversion with respect to fine lines and the like, as well as a control method of the device.

The resolution conversion device calculates a first two-dimensional coefficient according to an interpolation direction representing a direction of an edge or a fine line contained in a peripheral region of an interpolation pixel. The first two-dimensional coefficient and a second two-dimensional coefficient calculated by using an interpolation function representing isotropic distribution are synthesized by weighting according to certainty (a reliability z in the interpolation direction) indicating that the peripheral region includes the edge or fine line in the interpolation direction, so that a third two-dimensional coefficient is calculated. Product-sum operation of the third two-dimensional coefficient and a pixel value of a peripheral pixel of the interpolation pixel is performed so that the pixel value of the interpolation pixel is obtained. A larger reliability which is either a reliability z1 in the direction of the edge contained in the peripheral region or a reliability z2 in the direction of the fine line contained in the peripheral region is selected as a reliability z in the interpolation direction, and the direction corresponding to the selected reliability is used as the interpolation direction.
