Title:
RETAINING STRUCTURE FOR AUTOMOBILE WINDSHIELD WITH ENHANCED FIELD OF VIEW
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH08169362
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To permit side viewing through a rear side pillar so as to enhance the aerodynamic characteristic and appearance of the vehicle by providing each pillar with an open grid-like structure comprising a plurality of members, and designing the plurality of members to be contained generally within a plane passing the average position of mid points between both eyes of the driver.

CONSTITUTION: A pillar 4 is provided with side flanks 7, 8, 9, 10 connected to the side areas 26, 27 of a windshield 2 at their respective front faces and connected to protective windows 11, 12 at their respective rear faces. The side flanks 7-10 are provided within the planes of respective broken lines 13, 14, 15, 16 passing the average position M of mid points between both eyes of the driver. The side flanks 7-10 are connected by the stanchions 17-21 of flat members disposed within a plane containing the point M, and the stanchions 17-21 increase the rigidity of the pillars and impose little limit on the field of view of the driver as are the side flanks. The stanchions 17-21 are at approximately 45° to the side flanks and are made to abut one another at the height of one of the pillars.
