Inside casings 12, 15, 18 of an expander for converting thermal energy and pressure energy of a working medium into mechanical energy is provided with working parts such as axial piston cylinders working at a working medium introduced into a working chamber and a sealed lubrication chamber 102 in which at least oil for lubricating the working parts is collected. Breather chambers 101, 103 are provided on the lubrication chamber 102, while the working medium exhaust chamber 90 for exhausting the working medium from the working chamber and the breather chambers 101, 103 are continuously connected via breather passages B1 to B4. The admixture of the working medium leaked from the working chamber to the lubrication chamber 102 and the oil are isolated in the breather chamber 101, 103. Then oil is returned to the lubrication chamber 102 and the working medium is returned to the working medium exhaust chamber 90 via the breather passages B1 to B4.
