To provide a scanning optical system which has a short length, high resolution and a high S/N ratio and is easily inserted into a channel hole of an endoscope.
The scanning optical system has: an optical fiber; a light condensing optical system provided with a first lens enlarging a spreading angle of light emitted from the optical fiber and having negative power and a second lens condensing light made incident from the first lens on a subject; and a scanning means performing scanning of the subject by integrally combining the tip part of the optical fiber and the light condensing optical system. Thereby the scanning optical system is obtained which has a short length, high resolution and a high S/N ratio and is easily inserted into a channel hole of an endoscope.
