Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scintillator and a radiation detector excellent in light emission amount, fluorescence lifetime, and position resolution.SOLUTION: A scintillator has a first crystal phase 11 having a plurality of columnar crystals with unidirectional property and a second crystal phase 12 covering a side surface of the first crystal phase 11. The first crystal phase 11 contains at least a rear earth halide represented by the general formula REX, where RE is at least one kind of La, Ce, Nd, Gd, Eu, Y, and Lu, or an alkali earth metal halide represented by AEX, where AE is at least one kind of Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba. The second crystal phase 12 contains a rare earth halide or an alkali earth metal halide which are different from at least the first crystal phase 11, or an alkali metal halide represented by AX, where A is at least one kind of Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs, and X is at least one kind of F, Cl, Br and I.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
