To obtain a new selenic acid reducing bacterium for wastewater treatment, belonging to the genus Paracoccus and having an ability reducing hexavalent Se and capable of effectively removing Se in wastewater and realizing obedience of elution standard at a low cost.
This new selenic acid reducing bacteria FERM BP-5662 belongs to the genus Paracoccus and has ability of reducing hexavalent Se. Separation and removal treatment of hexavalent Se, which has been conventionally difficult to treat, is made readily possible by treatment with the microorganism and the method using the microorganism can be utilized for wastewater treatment, etc., of exhaust gas desulfurizer and is useful for wastewater treatment method capable of realizing obedience of elution standard at a low cost. The new microorganism is obtained by finding a new strain of the genus Paracoccus capable of effectively reducing selenic acid from activated sludge used for denitrification treatment of conventional wastewater treatment equipment. Furthermore desulfurized wastewater A from the desulfurizer 1 is passed through flocculation deposition and COD treatment and hexavalent Se is reduced by using the microorganism in a microorganism treatment process and reduced material is removed in tetravalent Se removal process and discharged as a already treated wastewater B.
