PURPOSE: To provide a sensitivity correcting method for an infrared image pickup device which can output the images including the decreased noises.
CONSTITUTION: In a sensitivity correction state, a solid-state image pickup element 2 is shifted on the optical axis of an optical system 1 and in the direction opposite to a system 1. At the same time, a conversion lens 7 is inserted between the system 1 and the element 2 to convert the light beams condensed by the system 1 into the parallel beams. The lens 7 forms the luminous intensity at the front of the element 2 by averaging the luminous intensity distribution formed on an image surface by an image pickup target. Under such conditions, the output value of each picture element of the element 2 is stored in a storage for correction of the sensitivity. Thus, the proper correction of sensitivity is ensured and the images including the decreased noises can be obtained.
