To provide a sheet discharge device that effectively enhances safety when an intrusion detector is disabled to enable continuous operation.
The sheet discharge device includes: a paper discharge chain 22b which conveys paper W; a first pile 26 or second pile 26b which has multiple stages of stacking plates 27a or 27b for stacking paper discharged from the paper discharge chain; a first beam sensor 62a or 62b, a second beam sensor 63a or 63b, and a third beam sensor 64a or 64b that detect intrusion into the first pile or second pile; a plate upper-limit position detection sensor 58a or 58b which detects that the stacking plate is positioned at a plate upper-limit position L2; and a control device 50 which disables the stop command of a drive device (printing machine) by the first to third beam sensors based on the detection signals of the plate upper-limit position detection sensor. In addition, at the plate upper-limit position of the stacking plate, an operator is blocked from entering the travel area of the paper discharge chain.
