To provide a sheet transport device capable of eliminating the wrinkle and twist of a sheet being transported.

A sheet transport device comprises: a sheet storage portion 11 for storing a sheet bundle 1; sheet ascending/descending member driving means 18 for vertically ascending and descending the sheet bundle 1; and two electrostatic attraction belt units 131 and 132 positioned as an electrostatic attraction belt device 13 located above the sheet bundle 1 and having endless electrostatic attraction belts 13A for electrostatically attracting the sheets. The electrostatic attraction belt units 131 and 132 are individually spaced from each other and arranged to form a space K, and the two adjoining electrostatic attraction belts 13A and 13A are arranged such that the spacing at the downstream transportation side end of the sheets is made larger than the spacing at the upstream transportation side end of the sheets. An uppermost sheet 1A is widened in the width direction while being transported by the electrostatic attraction belts 13A and 13A so that the wrinkle and the twist are eliminated.
