Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the uniformity of the cutting action of a knife by controlling the cutting depth of the knife of a chipper.
SOLUTION: A log-slabbing chipper has a chipper cutting head 10 which includes a power-driven rotor head 16 and multiple double-edged 64, 66 knives distributed around the rotor head 16. A detachable wear plate 70 for each knife extends in covering relation over a cutting edge 66 in the knife that occupies an inoperative position. The wear plate 70 establishes a proper depth of cut for the cutting edge of a knife which fellows the wear plate 70.
